Report Cards Available Online January 30
Dear Cambrian Heights families,
Beginning Tuesday, January 30, your child’s report card will be available to view in your MyCBE account. The report card is one of the ways teachers communicate how your child is progressing in their learning. Teachers may also share learning progress through parent/teacher conferences, your child’s daily work and assignments, and other ongoing communication with you.
What to Expect in Your Child’s Report Card - Available Online on Tuesday, January 30
CBE began implementing the new Alberta Education Curriculum. Last year, Cambrian Heights students started the new curriculum in K-6 English Language Arts and Literature, Mathematics, and Physical Education and Well-being. This fall, Cambrian Heights students also started the new curriculum in Science (K-3).
In the new curriculum, some things students learn may be new or may have previously been taught in higher grades. Students could be missing foundational pieces from previous grades, and their report card indicators might not be as high as before. This is expected when there is a new curriculum. It might take more than one school year to build these foundational skills. Even though each grade has its own curriculum, many ideas come up again each year, helping students to build on what they already know and do well. Teachers continue to make learning interesting and inspiring and are adapting to students' needs during this transition.
Please view your child's report card online on January 30. You may want to save a copy of the report card at home, as the report card is only viewable for a few weeks. This year, you will notice that teachers have provided written comments using bullet points in certain subject areas, so that you can clearly see your child's Areas of Strength and Areas for Growth. If you have any questions about your child's learning, please don't hesitate to contact your child's teacher.
Kindergarten Report Cards
Kindergarten teachers will report progress to parents / legal guardians via January and June report cards. In January, progress in English Language Arts and Literature and Math will be communicated to parents / legal guardians via the report card. Other subject areas will be visible online but will be blank (these subjects will not appear on PDF versions). In June, progress in all discipline areas will be communicated to parents / legal guardians via the report card.
Sincerely,
Kevin Whitton, Principal
