Illness

If your child becomes ill at school, every effort will be made to contact parents/guardians so the child can be picked up. If parents or an emergency contact cannot be contacted, the child will be kept in the office until dismissal. Children, who are too ill to fully participate in all school activities (including recess and lunch), should remain at home until they can participate.

Student Medication/Allergies

 The administration of medication to a child is the responsibility of the parent. In order for medication to be administered at the school, the parent is required to sign a Student Health Plan form. For the safety of children, it is imperative that parents/guardians indicate on the School Information Form if the child has allergies to specific food and/or items in the environment. If a child has a severe allergy that requires the administration of an Epi-Pen or inhaler, the child must carry the Epi-Pen or inhaler in a fanny pack on their person at all times. 

Please feel free to make an appointment with the school administration to discuss our plans to handle sensitive issues if you have concerns. Severe allergies are a reality for a significant number of students. We have students with allergies to nuts, milk products, eggs, various fruits and a variety of other items. For many of these students, these allergies can be life‐threatening. 

We are an “Allergy Aware” school which means, by educating the community and ourselves, we will better protect the dignity and personal safety of all our students. In order to ensure the safety and well-being of these students, we ask that you assist with the following requests.

Peanut Butter and Other Allergens

Peanut butter is sticky and easily spread. It is also hard to effectively clean up peanut butter. As nut allergies are on the list of most worrisome and severe allergies, we ask to be mindful of sending peanut butter to school. We will ask that students sit far away from identified students for safety’s sake. In order to ensure the safety and well-being of these students, we ask that parents/guardians do not bring in snacks or treats to any classroom for any events, unless specifically requested.
