School Update:
Respect, Bravery & Cougar Spirit: Our Terry Fox Run
What an incredible day of school spirit, community, and determination at Cambrian Heights School!
We kicked off our Terry Fox Run with a whole school assembly, with students gathering in their House Teams. Our Earth, Wind, Air, and Fire Cougars are mixed-grade teams that bring students from across the school together for Community Activity Days (CAD), friendly competition in Physical Education, and other activities designed to build connection and school spirit.
Each House Team came prepared with a special cheer for Terry Fox, filling the gym with plenty of energy and enthusiasm! After each team shared their cheer, the winning House earned some extra House points.
We also celebrated reaching our $1,000 Terry Fox fundraising goal! In fact, we exceeded our goal, and through the support of this community we have raised $1,326! Thank you to our families and community for your generous support. To celebrate, the names of nine student donors were drawn, and each had the opportunity to pie one of nine brave staff members in the face! There was a lot of laughter, positive energy, and Cougar spirit as we got ready for the run.
Once we headed outside, our students continued to demonstrate our school’s core values of Respect and Bravery. Our Cougars showed bravery by challenging themselves, persevering when the distance became difficult, and completing a 3.5 km journey from Cambrian Heights School, around Confederation Park, and back again.
Along the way, students demonstrated respect through their kindness and encouragement toward one another, their positive interactions with members of our community, and the care they showed for Confederation Park.
Terry’s Marathon of Hope continues, and we are proud that our Cougars are part of it.
Connecting with Our Cambrian Families
Thank you to all the families who joined us on Friday for our Parent-Teacher Interviews and Open House!
During the morning, teachers met with families of students with Individual Program Plans (IPPs), as well as families where an early opportunity to connect and discuss student learning and support was helpful. These conversations provided valuable time to share information, celebrate strengths, and ensure we are working together to support each child’s success.
In the afternoon, we hosted an open house, welcoming families into classrooms to see where their children learn each day, explore student learning and classroom displays, and connect informally with teachers. It was wonderful to see so many families throughout the school!
Strong partnerships between home and school are an important part of helping children feel supported and successful. We truly value our connection with families and the knowledge, perspective, and care you bring to your child’s education.
If you couldn’t join us on Friday, please know that connection is not limited to interview days. You are always welcome to email or call your child’s teacher to arrange a conversation or meeting.
Your Voice Matters: Join Our School Council
Our first School Council meeting of the year will take place on Thursday, October 1, from 6:00 – 6:30 p.m.
School Council is an important way for families to have a voice, share ideas, stay connected, and be part of the conversation about our school community. Whether you attend every meeting or are joining us for the first time, all families are welcome!
We also know that getting everyone through the after-school rush and then making it back to school for a 6:00 p.m. meeting isn’t always easy. That’s why our meetings are hybrid. Families are welcome to join us in person in our school library or online from home. A link to join virtually will be shared with families next week.
At each School Council meeting, we also feature a grade team spotlight. Teachers will share a glimpse into what learning looks like in their classrooms, including examples and artifacts of student learning. At the October 1 meeting, the Grade 6 team will be sharing.
We hope you’ll join us on October 1! Your voice, ideas, and involvement help strengthen our school community and the partnership between home and school.
Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Todd Webber
Principal, Cambrian Heights School
