School Update:

Our Core Values at Cambrian Heights School

At Cambrian Heights School, we are focusing on three core values this year: Respect, Honesty, and Bravery. These values are grounded in Indigenous wisdom from the Seven Sacred Teachings, which guide us in living with kindness and integrity. During our welcome back assembly this week, we introduced these values to students as part of our commitment to truth and reconciliation, which includes incorporating Indigenous knowledge and teaching methods into our classrooms. Over the next few weeks, teachers will be discussing these core values with students, providing opportunity for conversation and reflection on how to live these values through actions and words in our school community.

Respect, represented by the buffalo, means giving selflessly to help others.  Respect means treating ourselves, other people, and our environment with care, and considering whether the things we say to people are true, necessary, and kind.

Honesty, represented by the Raven, means acting with integrity – as in, doing the right thing even when nobody is watching.  It's about being true to yourself, and using your strengths to help others, and to make our school an even better place.

Bravery, represented by the bear, means having the courage to face fears, try new things, and overcome challenges - even when it's difficult. It also involves speaking your truth, making positive choices, and standing up for what you believe in for yourself, your community, your family, and for your school.

Cambrian Heights School Terry Fox Run 2024

In this year’s Cambrian Heights School Terry Fox Run on September 20th, we’re drawing inspiration from Terry’s incredible perseverance and determination. Every day during his Marathon of Hope, Terry pushed himself to do hard things, and this year, we’ve decided to challenge ourselves too! Instead of running laps around our school field, our students in grades 2-6 will embark on a longer run through Confederation Park. Our Grade 5/6 Principal’s Student Leadership Group will be mapping out the route next week, along with continuing their research and efforts in promoting the run. Parents are welcome to join us for the run—stay tuned for more details!

Teacher Communication to Parents

At Cambrian Heights School, we place great importance on communication between teachers and parents. To help keep you informed, our teachers will be sending a weekly message every Friday. These updates will include key information for the upcoming week and share highlights of the learning that took place. We hope these messages offer a meaningful entry point for conversations with your child about their learning and experiences at school.

Absence or Late Reporting

A reminder to please call the office at 403-777-8150 Ext. 1 or email cambrianheights@cbe.ab.ca, if your child is going to be absent or late.  Please provide the students full name, teacher name, and the reason they or going to be absent or late.

Walking Fieldtrips

A reminder to parents that a letter was attached to last week’s message explaining walking fieldtrips.  Teachers will give 48-hour notice to families if they are walking offsite.  Please let teachers know if you need to pick up your child early to avoid delays during offsite activities.

Bussing

If there are times when you will be picking your child up and they won’t be riding the bus, please call the office (403-777-6150) or email (CambrianHeights@cbe.ab.ca) before 2:00 PM if possible. If it’s a last-minute decision and you aren’t able to call or email ahead of time, please come to the office and sign your child out.

Have a great weekend!
