School Update:

A Strong Start Together

Our school has a fresh new look this year, and it has been exciting to see students and families taking in all the changes. Over the summer, new flooring was installed throughout the school, the entire interior was painted, the exterior stucco was painted, seven classrooms were painted, and every doorknob in the building was replaced. Some of those doorknobs had been part of Cambrian Heights School since it first opened in 1957!

Although the renovations created a real sense of renewal, it was our students who truly brought the school back to life this week. Seeing classrooms and hallways once again filled with energy, laughter and learning has been a wonderful reminder that the people inside our building are what make Cambrian Heights such a special place.

Our staff have approached these first days with tremendous care and intention. They have been focused on building relationships, establishing routines and creating welcoming spaces where students feel safe, supported and ready to learn.

As we move into the year, strong and open communication will continue to be a priority. Our Cougars Corner Weekly Update will keep families informed about important dates, school news, upcoming events and learning happening throughout the building.

My Assistant Principal, Erin Laberee Lee, and I also want families to know that our doors are always open. Please reach out whenever you have a question, concern, idea or something you would like us to know. Our school is strongest when families and staff communicate openly and work together to support students.

Thank you to our students, staff and families for bringing such positive energy to the beginning of the 2026–27 school year. We are excited for everything that lies ahead.

Additional Staffing to Support Student Learning

This fall, the CBE has hired hundreds of teachers, education assistants and other school-based staff to support student learning. These positions have been funded by the Government of Alberta to help address classroom complexity and class sizes.

We are pleased to welcome the following additional staff members to Cambrian Heights School for the 2026–27 school year:

• Sabrina Nacinovic, Classroom Complexity Teacher (CCT)
• Fay Dezhbankhan, CCT Education Assistant
• Miseon Choi, CCT Education Assistant
• Jill McIlhagga-Ross, Class Size Reduction Teacher

These additional staff members will help ensure students benefit from:

• Increased individual attention from teachers
• Supportive and responsive classroom environments
• Greater support for diverse learning needs

This additional staffing will make a meaningful difference in our classrooms and enhance the support we are able to provide to students across the school.

We are also very pleased to welcome Ms. Andrews back as our music teacher.

Cambrian Heights School is fortunate to have such a wonderful group of educators joining our school community, and we look forward to the contributions each of them will make.

Cambrian Heights School Terry Fox Run 2026

We are excited to participate in the Terry Fox Run on Thursday, September 24! Students in Grades 2–6 will run through Confederation Park, while our Kindergarten and Grade 1 students will participate on our school field.

Parents are welcome to join us as we come together to honour Terry’s legacy and support cancer research. Specific times will be shared closer to the date.

This year, our school fundraising goal is $1,000 for the Terry Fox Foundation.

Please donate online through our Cambrian Heights School fundraising page rather than sending cash to school. If we reach our goal, every student who donates or raises at least $10 online will be entered into a draw for the chance to throw a pie in the face of a participating staff member! Names will be drawn during our Terry Fox assembly.

Our brave volunteers are Mr. Webber, Ms. Laberee Lee, Mr. Sadowsky, Mr. Steinke, Mr. Close, Ms. Thistle, Ms. Jolivett, Ms. Inberg, and Ms. Clarke. Thank you for supporting this special event!

School Council is a wonderful way to connect with other families and be involved at Cambrian Heights School! From supporting learning resources and school enhancements to helping with special projects and events, Council enriches our students’ school experience. Meetings also give families an opportunity to hear updates from administration, ask questions, and share ideas and feedback.

School Council meets once a month, with options to join in person or online. Whether you are new to Cambrian Heights or have been part of our community for years, everyone is welcome. There is no need to take on a formal role. Simply coming to listen, learn, and contribute your perspective makes a difference. We look forward to welcoming familiar faces and new voices this year!
