 School Update:

Terry Fox Run

In this year’s Cambrian Heights School Terry Fox Run on September 20th, we’re drawing inspiration from Terry’s incredible perseverance and determination. Every day during his Marathon of Hope, Terry pushed himself to do hard things, and this year, we’ve decided to challenge ourselves too! Instead of running laps around our school field, our students in grades 2-6 will embark on a longer run through Confederation Park.

Our Grade 5/6 Principal’s Student Leadership Group has been working diligently on their research to promote the run. They’ve already started making announcements and have put up a bulletin board displaying their reflections. Next week, they will be mapping out the route through Confederation Park.

Parents are warmly invited to join us for the run – please connect with your child’s teacher to indicate you interest in volunteering.  You do not need volunteer clearance to join your child during our school Terry Fox run.       Our run will start at 9:00 AM. We will begin on the school compound, walk to Confederation Park, and then begin our run portion once we arrive at the park.

We would love your support in this meaningful event. For donations, please visit our https://schools.terryfox.ca/71596

First Parent-Teacher Conference

Our first parent-teacher conference dates are from 4:00PM – 8:00PM on Thursday, September 26th and from 8:00AM – 12:00PM on Friday, September 27thAll conferences will be in-person.  Our online conference booking system will open up on September 19th at 4:00PM.  If you need any support accessing the online booking system, please call the office (403-777-6150).

As we approach our first parent-teacher conferences of the year, we want to emphasize how valuable this first meeting is for us to gain a deeper understanding of your child’s learning journey. This is an opportunity for us to learn more from you about your child's strengths, interests, and goals for the year. Some helpful points to discuss during include:

  • What are the main goals in learning that you have for your child this year?
  • What challenges might your child face in their learning, and what support will they need to overcome these challenges?
  • What important information about your child would you like to make sure we are aware of?

By sharing this information, we can work together to create the best possible learning environment for your child. Parent-teacher conferences are an important step in building a strong partnership between home and school, and together, we can support your child in reaching their full potential this year. We look forward to meeting with you and discussing how we can collaborate to ensure your child’s success.

AMA School Safety Patrols

We’re excited to announce that the AMA School Safety Patrols will be starting up soon at Cambrian Heights School! Our dedicated patrols will once again be stationed at the intersection of Northmount Drive and Cornwallis Drive, helping to ensure safe crossings for all students in front of the school. AMA will be conducting the training for our patrols, and we will share the training dates once they are finalized.

In the meantime, we encourage all parents to cross with their children at the marked crosswalk. This will help familiarize them with the safest way to cross and reinforce the importance of using the crosswalk.  Thank you for your cooperation and support in keeping our students safe!

Fire and Lockdown Practice

This past Wednesday, we conducted a Fire Drill at Cambrian Heights School as part of our ongoing commitment to safety. Next week, we will be partnering with the Calgary Police Service to conduct a Lockdown Drill.

These practice exercises are crucial for educating students and staff on the proper procedures to follow in the event of an emergency. Fire and lockdown drills help familiarize everyone with evacuation routes, assembly points, and other safety protocols, thereby enhancing preparedness and minimizing risk during actual emergencies.  We appreciate your support as we work to ensure a safe and secure environment for our students.

Demographic Verification

Please submit the Demographic Verification and Annual Authorization forms in SchoolEngage for your child. These forms are mandatory every year for Alberta Education to confirm student funding.  Thank you for completing them.

If you have any other students with the Calgary Board of Education, you may proceed with completing their forms too. Thank those families who have already completed forms for their children.

 Bussing

If there are times when you will be picking your child up and they won’t be riding the bus, please call the office (403-777-6150) or email (CambrianHeights@cbe.ab.ca) before 2:00 PM if possible. If it’s a last-minute decision and you aren’t able to call or email ahead of time, please come to the office and sign your child out.

 Have a great weekend!
