School Update:
Cambrian Heights School is on Instagram!
I’m excited to share that Cambrian Heights School now has an Instagram account! You can find us at @cambrian_heights_cbe. One of the best parts of my job is seeing the amazing learning, creativity, and just plain fun that happens in our school every day — and now we have a way to share some of those moments with you.
My goal is to give our parent community a little “window into the school,” so you can see what your kids are talking about when they come home and feel even more connected to what’s happening here. Sharing these snapshots of school life also helps us celebrate our students’ accomplishments, highlight the events and traditions that make CHS special, and showcase the hard work of our incredible staff. It’s a great way to strengthen that home-school connection and build a sense of community pride.
If you’re on Instagram, follow us at @cambrian_heights_cbe and share with grandparents, extended family, or anyone else who’d love to see a peek into life at Cambrian Heights!
New Morning Tradition at Cambrian Heights School
We’re excited to share that we’ve started a brand-new morning tradition here at Cambrian Heights School! Our Grade 6 students are stepping into a leadership role by hosting our daily morning announcements — and they’re doing it in a way that includes everyone in our school community.
To build a positive, lighthearted start to the school day, students from across the school can now fill out a short form to submit a joke of the day that will be read on the announcements. Laughter is one of the best ways to start the day together!
And because we also live in a time when it’s so important to lift each other up, students and staff can now submit a “Caught Ya!!” to recognize a student who has demonstrated one of our core values (Respect, Bravery, or Honesty), which will also be shared during morning announcements.
Simple acts like this make a big difference — and we’re proudly posting all these recognitions in our school foyer so everyone can celebrate the moments when our students live out our values.
Want to see some of these in action? Check out our brand-new Instagram account: @cambrian_heights_cbe for a peek at the fun!
We’re so proud of all our students and can’t wait to see how this tradition continues to grow.
CBE Dates of Significance Calendar
One of the things I love about the Calgary Board of Education is how committed we are to building a culture where every student and staff member can see themselves valued, respected, and celebrated.
Each year, the CBE puts out a Dates of Significance calendar that highlights some of the important days and months of recognition and celebration across Canada. These dates are identified by provincial and federal governments to help raise awareness, celebrate culture, and shine a light on important topics. Here at Cambrian Heights, I’ll often pick items from this calendar to include in our “Upcoming Dates” section so you can see what’s ahead. When I can, I’ll even link to a page or resource so you and your kids can dig a little deeper if you want to learn what the day is all about.
It’s also good to know that this calendar doesn’t capture every significant day out there. There are lots of meaningful events and celebrations — like International Childhood Cancer Day (Feb. 15) — that don’t make the official list but can still be recognized and celebrated if they’re meaningful to our school community.
And in the spirit of transparency, if it’s something we’re formally taking up as a whole school — with classroom learning, assemblies, or other activities — you’ll always see it clearly noted in my weekly update. That way you’ll know exactly what we’re putting energy into as a school and can chat about it with your kids at home.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Cambrian Heights Parent Association Update:
Next Meeting: September 25th at 6:00PM
Email: Cambrian.schoolcouncil@gmail.com
Just like last year, we’re offering a hybrid format so you can attend in the way that works best for you — either in person at Cambrian Heights School or online via Microsoft Teams. If you’re able to make it in person, that’s wonderful (it’s always great to connect face-to-face!), but if it’s easier to join from home, we’ll have a video link ready for you.
Being part of School Council is one of the best ways to have a voice in what’s happening at the school. It’s where school staff share updates on learning, parents provide feedback on school initiatives, and we work together on plans that directly impact our students. Whether you’re passionate about events, fundraising, or just staying informed, your perspective matters — and you don’t have to commit to every meeting to make a difference.
And speaking of making a difference, School Council will once again be running our Apple Fundraiser — a delicious way to support school programs!
Watch for more details coming out next week!
We can’t wait to see both familiar and new faces as we kick off another great year of working together to make CHS the best it can be for our kids.
