School Update:
Thank You for Attending Our Drumming Residency Performance!
A big thank you to all the parents and families who attended our community performance showcasing student learning at the end of the first week of our drumming residency with The One World Drum Co. We are fortunate to have a class set of djembe drums, and this residency allowed our students to explore the rich culture of West African drumming. We are grateful to our Parent Council for funding this initiative, which provides students with meaningful music experiences.
Next week, we will be holding another community performance to celebrate more student learning. Keep an eye out for an invitation from your child's teacher, as it will include information about which classes will be performing and at what time.
Secret Path Week at Cambrian Heights School
This week, our students participated in meaningful activities to honor Secret Path Week, fostering respect, empathy, and reflection on the history of residential schools.
- K-4 Classes: Students watched Storytime with Nicola Campbell as she read Shi-Shi-Etko, a story that weaves together Indigenous cultural teachings about respect, healing, and reciprocity. Afterward, students reflected through writing and artwork, which we will proudly display on our Indigenous Education documentation board.
- Grade 5/6 Classes: Students engaged with a portion of Gord Downie’s The Secret Path, learning about Chanie Wenjack and the significance of Secret Path Week. They responded with thoughtful written reflections and artistic pieces, showcasing their deepening understanding of the impact of residential schools on Indigenous communities. You can also see artifacts of student learning proudly displayed on our Indigenous Education documentation board.
Schoolwide Pumpkin Carving Contest
Each class at Cambrian Heights has been given a pumpkin and a carving kit to participate in our schoolwide pumpkin carving contest! Students will work together to design and carve their class pumpkin, showcasing their creativity and teamwork. The finished pumpkins will be displayed, and a winning class will be selected to receive a special prize. We’re excited to see all the unique and imaginative creations our students come up with!
Halloween at Cambrian Heights School
Halloween will be a regular day of learning at Cambrian Heights School, with one exciting twist—students are welcome to wear their Halloween costumes to school! Our only requests are that students do not wear masks that cover their faces and refrain from bringing costume accessories in the form of weaponry. We look forward to seeing everyone’s creative costumes while maintaining a fun and safe learning environment.
Enjoy your weekend!
