School Update:

Celebrating the Success of Grade 6 Outdoor School

This past week, our Grade 6 students embarked on an unforgettable adventure at YMCA Camp Chief Hector, spending four days and three nights in the magnificent Rocky Mountains of Kananaskis. This incredible program focused on outdoor challenge, fun, individual growth, environmental stewardship, and leadership development – offering students an experience beyond the walls of a classroom.

I had the opportunity to drive out to camp after school on Tuesday to visit with staff and students, and what I saw was pure joy – students smiling, being active outdoors, making new connections, and creating memories that will last a lifetime. Moments like these are why I place such high value on outdoor school experiences for students.

A huge thank you to our community for supporting our December bake sale, which helped keep costs down for families. And for those wondering…yes, this is a new tradition at Cambrian Heights School! I’ve had students in Grades 3, 4, and 5 already asking if they’ll have a camp experience when they reach Grade 6, and my answer is a resounding YES!

Finally, I want to express my deepest gratitude to my incredible staff who attended. Their days started at 7:30 AM and didn’t end until 9:30 PM, yet every one of them shared how worth it the experience was. They got to see our students in a different light, learn new things about them, and be part of the joy that only camp can bring. Thank you for making this such a meaningful experience for our students!

Grade 6 Basketball Tournament Update

Unfortunately, the Grade 6 basketball tournament scheduled for next week has been postponed due to the ongoing CUPE Local 40 labour action. However, I felt it was important to want to honour the dedication and hard work our Grade 6 boys and girls teams have put into practicing and preparing. So, to celebrate their efforts, we are hosting a Teachers vs. Grade 6 Students Basketball Game next Wednesday!

This friendly competition will be a fun way to showcase our players' skills, build school spirit, and enjoy the game together. We look forward to a great matchup – may the best team win!

Dance-Off Finals – A Historic Tie!

Today marked the exciting Dance-Off Finals between Ms. Thistle’s Grade 3/4 class and Ms. Bower’s Grade 5 class – and for the first time in Cambrian Heights School Dance-Off history, we had a TIE!

Let me be clear…this was NOT an “everyone gets a trophy” situation. It was a hard-fought, high-energy, and completely legitimate showdown. When the votes were counted, both teams had the exact same total!

To honor this historic moment, both classes will receive a custom vinyl record-themed trophy, which they’ll be able to sign as part of Dance-Off tradition.  And because what’s a celebration without snacks? Both classes will also enjoy a popcorn party, made fresh with our industrial popcorn maker!

A huge congratulations to all our dancers for their energy, creativity, and teamwork. The spirit of friendly competition was alive and well, and we can’t wait to see what next year brings!

Have a great weekend!
