School Update:
Swimming Lessons at Highwood Pool
Our swimming lessons at Highwood Pool went swimmingly well this week! Learning to swim is not only an essential life skill, but also a fantastic way to build confidence and stay active.
While we missed one day due to air quality concerns, we're grateful that Highwood Pool has kindly offered makeup days next week (listed above).
Lessons will also continue next week, with our Grades 3/4 and Grade 2 classes heading to the pool for their turn in the water!
A huge thank you to our School Council for their generous financial contribution, which drastically lowered the cost of this experience for all families – we’re so appreciative of their support.
Our students also did an outstanding job walking to and from the pool each day – great exercise and a great way to build independence!
Honoured Guest: Skip Wolfleg Jr. Gifting us a Flag Song
On Monday, we had the honour of welcoming Skip Wolfleg Jr. to Cambrian Heights School. Skip is a well-known Indigenous drummer, singer, and storyteller from the Siksika Nation. He met with every class to share a special Flag Song he has generously gifted to our school.
In Indigenous cultures, a Flag Song is often performed at the beginning of gatherings, similar in purpose to a national anthem. They mark moments of unity, remembrance, and cultural pride. Singing and drumming are traditional ways of passing down knowledge and keeping stories and customs alive.
Skip’s generous gift of a Flag Song to Cambrian Heights School is a powerful act of reconciliation. By introducing this song to our students, we begin to normalize the sounds of Indigenous drumming and singing within our school, weaving them into our weekly experiences in respectful and meaningful ways. It’s a way to show ongoing recognition of Indigenous presence, culture, and contribution, while helping students understand the importance of honouring diverse traditions.
We are deeply grateful for Skip’s teachings and for this meaningful gift that will remain part of our school community for years to come.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Heartfelt Thanks to Our Incredible Community
Our Elbow River Casino fundraiser is now complete, and it was a huge success! Thanks to the incredible support of our families and volunteers, nearly every spot was filled, helping us raise close to $80,000 for our school. These funds will go directly toward enriching student learning experiences, from field trips and guest experts to our exciting library transformation.
Thank you for your time, energy, and unwavering commitment to our students!
