School Update:

Making a Splash at Highwood Pool

This week, our first group of swimmers wrapped up an incredible week of swimming lessons at Highwood Pool! Over five days, our Grade 4, 5, and 6 students participated in daily lessons and were grouped by ability to build confidence, develop new skills, and grow from their individual starting points.

From warm, sunny afternoons to cooler rainy days, our students embraced the experience with resilience and bravery…showing up each day ready to learn, challenge themselves, and support one another in the water. Their positive attitude and willingness to persevere through changing weather made us proud.

At Cambrian Heights, we place a high value on swimming as an important life skill. Swimming supports physical wellness, builds confidence, and most importantly, helps students develop skills that contribute to lifelong safety and confidence around water.  Next week, we are excited for our Grade 1, 2, and 3 students to begin their own week of swimming lessons and continue this important learning experience.

A sincere thank you to our School Council for their incredible support of this opportunity. Through a contribution of more than $10,000, School Council has significantly subsidized the cost of this experience so that families only pay a fraction of what five days of swimming lessons would normally cost. We are grateful for their ongoing commitment to creating meaningful opportunities for our students.

Additional Staffing Support for 2026–27

I am pleased to share that Cambrian Heights School has been allocated additional staffing support through targeted class size funding for the upcoming school year. This funding is intended to help reduce class sizes in core subject areas, including English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.

Additional staffing support helps create stronger learning conditions for students by increasing opportunities for teacher attention, supporting positive classroom learning environments, and allowing for greater responsiveness to the diverse learning needs within our school community.  We remain committed to using our resources thoughtfully and strategically to support meaningful learning experiences for all students.

Our Final Fun Lunch of the 2025–26 School Year

This week, students enjoyed our final Fun Lunch of the 2025–26 school year with a delicious lunch from Subway. Fun Lunch days are always an exciting part of the school experience and provide students with an opportunity to enjoy a special meal together as a school community.

As we wrap up another successful year of Fun Lunches, we want to extend our sincere thanks to all the families who participated and supported our Healthy Hunger fundraising initiative throughout the year. Your participation helped make these experiences possible while also contributing to opportunities that benefit students across our school.

A special thank you goes to our incredible School Council and the many parent volunteers who generously gave their time to organize, sort, and distribute lunches throughout the year. These events simply would not happen without your support, and we are grateful for the care and energy you bring to our school community.

Summer Opportunities with Calgary Bridge Foundation for Youth

Families looking for summer opportunities may be interested in two programs being offered by The Calgary Bridge Foundation for Youth (CBFY). These programs provide students with opportunities to build friendships, stay engaged in learning, strengthen confidence, and connect with their community over the summer months.

Bridge Summer Camp is a three-week program running Monday to Thursday and is open to students currently in Grades 1–9. Two sessions are available:

  • July 6–22
  • July 27–August 13

Registration: https://pci.jotform.com/form/261394134148255

CBFY is also offering the WIN/NOW Summer Camp, a free two-day program (August 18–19) for current Grade 6–11 newcomer students with Permanent Resident status.

Registration: https://form.jotform.com/261324539383258

Please reach out directly to The Calgary Bridge Foundation for Youth (CBFY) if you have any questions.

Have a fantastic weekend!

Sincerely,

Todd Webber

Cambrian Heights Parent Association Update:

Next Meeting: September 2026 (date to be announced)

Email: Cambrian.schoolcouncil@gmail.com

A special thank you to our School Council Chair, Michelle Naundorf, for joining us at our Kindergarten Orientation evening. Michelle took time to introduce herself to new families and share some of the many ways our School Council supports students and staff at Cambrian Heights School.

From funding learning resources and school enhancements to supporting special projects and events, School Council plays an important role in helping enrich the educational experience of our students. Just as importantly, it provides families with an opportunity to learn about what is happening in the school, hear updates from administration, share feedback, and help shape decisions that support our school community.

School Council meets once per month, and we offer a hybrid format so families can participate either in person or online. Whether you are a longtime member of our school community or joining us for the first time, we encourage you to consider getting involved. There is no requirement to take on a formal role. Simply attending meetings, sharing perspectives, and learning more about the school are valuable contributions.

As we begin looking ahead to the 2026–27 school year, we look forward to welcoming new voices and continuing the strong partnership between families and the school. Together, we can help make Cambrian Heights an even better place for students to learn, grow, and thrive.
