School Update:

CHS Art Contest – Celebrating Talent, Bravery, and Growth

Our recent CHS Art Contest brought forward an incredible 164 student submissions, showcasing the depth of creativity across our school community. The talent, originality, and effort on display made judging both inspiring and extremely challenging. Clear criteria were used in selecting the winning pieces, but the overall quality of work made every decision a difficult one.

Congratulations to our winners:

Division 1
1st Place – Sanvi (Grade 3)
2nd Place – Kiara (Grade 1)

Division 2
1st Place – Maddy (Grade 6)
2nd Place – Tanmay (Grade 6)

While we recognized first and second place in each division, we are equally proud of all 164 students who demonstrated bravery by submitting their work. Entering a competition requires vulnerability. It means sharing something personal, taking a risk, and being open to feedback. Those are important life skills.

Healthy competition, when grounded in clear criteria and respect, teaches students valuable lessons. It helps them understand standards of quality, experience goal setting, respond to outcomes with resilience, and celebrate the success of others. Not everyone receives a medal, but everyone gains experience, perspective, and growth.

A special thank you to Ms. Bower for organizing this opportunity for our students. Experiences like this strengthen confidence, voice, and pride in learning.

We are proud of our artists, and proud of the courage it takes to create.

You’re Invited: CHS Family STEAM Evening

We are excited to invite our Cambrian Heights families to a STEAM Family Evening on Thursday, February 19 from 6:00–7:30 p.m. here at the school (doors open at 5:50 p.m.).

STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics, and it connects closely to the Design Thinking process…empathize, define, ideate, prototype and test. More importantly? It’s hands-on, creative, and a whole lot of fun.

During the evening, families will learn a little about STEAM learning at CHS and then jump into a collaborative design and building challenge together. Adults, come ready to participate!  This is not a sit-and-watch event!

All students must attend with a supervising adult (18+). There is no cost to attend, and we look forward to seeing our gym filled with creativity, problem-solving, and family teamwork.

Pre-STEAM Event: School Council Meeting (5:30–6:00 p.m.)

Before the STEAM evening begins, we will host our School Council meeting in person from 5:30–6:00 p.m. Families are warmly encouraged to join us. The gym will be open for students to participate in supervised physical activity while parents attend the meeting. We hope you’ll make an evening of it and join us for both!

Jump Rope for Heart is Underway at CHS!

This week we officially launched our Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser!

Our Physed. teacher, Mr. Sadowsky, visited each class to share a short kickoff video and talk with students about the importance of heart health, physical activity, and supporting a great cause. Students were given a postcard with a QR code that links directly to our school’s fundraising page, along with information about optional prizes they can earn for their efforts.

In addition to raising funds for Heart & Stroke, this initiative helps students build awareness around healthy habits and caring for others. We’re grateful for the energy and enthusiasm already building in our gym and classrooms, and we appreciate your support as our Cougars jump in with heart!

Crosswalk & Traffic Safety Reminder

Student safety while crossing Northmount Dr. before and after school is always a priority at Cambrian Heights School. As the mornings continue to be darker and winter conditions impact visibility, we want to remind everyone to take extra care around our school crosswalks.

We are proud of our AMA School Safety Patrol students who support safe crossings each day and take their leadership role seriously. They help create safer conditions for everyone, but we all share responsibility in making sure crossings are calm, attentive, and predictable.

We ask families to please review crosswalk safety with their children, including stopping at the curb, making eye contact with drivers, and walking (not running) across the street, even when the crossing light is on.

We also ask drivers to avoid making U-turns directly in front of the school and to refrain from parking in the bus drop-off lane before and after school. These actions create unnecessary congestion and limit visibility for students and patrols working to keep everyone safe.

We are grateful for the City by-law officers who have been stationed out front of the school over the past two weeks with photo radar and issuing tickets to help slow down traffic and reinforce safe driving in our school zone. Their presence supports the safety of all students and families.

Thank you for partnering with us to keep our community safe.

With gratitude,

Todd Webber

Principal, Cambrian Heights School
