School Update:
Learning, Leading, and Celebrating Black History Month
This week, a group of student leaders from Grades 4, 5, and 6 launched Black History Month by putting a spotlight on Black leaders, artists, scientists, athletes, activists, and everyday heroes who have helped shape our world. Each day during announcements, they are sharing research about someone who inspires them, including William O’Ree, who showed incredible bravery and resilience to become the first Black hockey player in the NHL, in 1958. Students shared that his story reminds us that everyone deserves the chance to follow their dreams.
School Council & Parent Engagement Meeting
Before the STEAM family evening event begins next Thursday (see below), there will be a School Council meeting from 5:30–6:00 p.m. in the school library, with the option to attend either in person or online. This meeting will include an opportunity for families to participate in a Principal-led community engagement session to share feedback regarding our 2025-26 School Development Plan, the activities and experiences that matter most to you and your children, and your perspectives around school fees.
Families are warmly encouraged to join us. The gym will be open for students to participate in supervised physical activity while parents attend the meeting.
Your input helps us make thoughtful decisions about where we focus our time, energy, and resources. We value strong partnerships with families, and this is one of the ways we ensure our planning reflects what is most important to our community.
You’re Invited: CHS Family STEAM Evening
We are excited to invite our Cambrian Heights families to a STEAM Family Evening on Thursday, February 19 from 6:00–7:30 p.m. here at the school (doors open at 5:50 p.m.).
STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics, and it connects closely to the Design Thinking process…empathize, define, ideate, prototype and test. More importantly? It’s hands-on, creative, and a whole lot of fun.
During the evening, families will learn a little about STEAM learning at CHS and then jump into a collaborative design and building challenge together. Adults, come ready to participate! This is not a sit-and-watch event!
All students must attend with a supervising adult (18+). There is no cost to attend, and we look forward to seeing our gym filled with creativity, problem-solving, and family teamwork.
With gratitude,
Todd Webber
Principal, Cambrian Heights School

Please join us for our February 19 School Council meeting, which will include a principal-led community engagement opportunity. During this portion of the meeting, families will be invited to share feedback, perspectives, and ideas to help inform planning for the 2026–27 school year.
This is an important opportunity for our school community to contribute to conversations about priorities, supports, and future directions at Cambrian Heights School.
