School Update:
Our New Classroom Complexity Team (CCT)
We are pleased to share that, with support from the Government of Alberta, Cambrian Heights School has been provided with funding to establish a Classroom Complexity Team (CCT), which includes the equivalent of an additional full-time teacher and additional support from Education Assistants.
To best meet the needs of our students, we have thoughtfully divided this role into two part-time positions. One teacher is focused on supporting students with the most complex learning and regulation needs, while the other is dedicated to supporting students with language development across the school.
At Cambrian Heights School, our families speak over 30 different languages at home. Recognizing language as an important aspect of classroom complexity allows us to more intentionally support students as they build communication skills, access learning, and fully participate in school life.
In addition, providing focused support for students with complex learning and regulation needs is essential to ensuring all students can thrive. This work includes building consistent routines, supporting self-regulation, strengthening classroom strategies, and working alongside teachers to create environments where students are more supported, and ready to learn. Having dedicated time and expertise in this area allows us to respond more proactively and effectively to student needs across the school.
As part of establishing a CCT, we have also been able to increase the hours of our Education Assistants (EA), resulting in an additional 25 hours of EA support each week. This increased presence allows for more consistent in-class support, greater flexibility in responding to student needs, and more opportunities for small-group and individualized instruction.
Together, these supports strengthen our ability to create a learning environment where all students are supported, included, and set up for success.
New 3D Printer at Cambrian Heights School
We are excited to share that Cambrian Heights School is now home to a new Creality K1 Max 3D printer, made possible through the generous support of our School Council. Thank you for helping to bring this opportunity to our students!
One of the first ways we’ve begun using the printer connects directly to our core values of respect, bravery, and honesty. Many classrooms have introduced a punch card system where students are recognized for demonstrating kindness, care for themselves and others, and positive contributions to our learning environment. Students can then “cash in” their cards for a small 3D-printed functional focus tool.
As we continue learning more about what this technology can do, we’re excited to expand its use across the school. From design thinking and problem-solving to hands-on creation in Science, Math, and Art, 3D printing opens meaningful opportunities for students in Kindergarten through Grade 6 to bring their ideas to life.
We also know that within our Cambrian Heights community, there may be parents and family members with experience or expertise in 3D design, printing, or related fields. If that’s you, we would love to connect and explore ways to partner, learn, and continue growing this work in creative and innovative ways. Please feel free to reach out to the school…we’d be excited to learn alongside you!
We’re just getting started and look forward to seeing where this takes us.
Investing in Our Learning Environments
As part of our ongoing investment in updating spaces and creating learning environments that are welcoming, functional, and supportive of student learning, we have recently added new classroom furniture at Cambrian Heights School.
This includes two classroom sets of new chairs and thirteen new tables. The chairs have been placed in a Grade 2/3 and Grade 5 classroom, while the tables have been distributed across Grade 2/3 and Grade 1 classes. With these additions, we have been able to replace our oldest and most worn furniture, resulting in more consistent, refreshed learning spaces across the school.
Upgraded furniture supports students in practical ways by providing more comfortable, appropriately sized seating, improving organization within classrooms, and helping create environments that are calm, purposeful, and ready for learning. It’s another step in ensuring our physical spaces reflect the care and value we place on student experience each day.
Have a great long weekend!
