Creativity on Display at the Grade 1 Assembly
This week, our Grade 1 students proudly hosted a community assembly and shared some of the wonderful learning they’ve been doing in class. They explored how to handle big emotions through the story Anh’s Anger, and created unique “emotion monsters” to represent different feelings – each one as creative and expressive as our students!
The assembly also featured a joyful performance of “A Little Bit of Love”, a song reminding us how kindness and love can brighten the world. In celebration of the new season, the students wrapped things up with some fun and lively spring-themed readers theatre performances.
We’re so proud of our Grade 1students for speaking, singing, and sharing with such confidence and heart. Thank you to everyone who was able to attend and support their hard work!
Democracy in Action – Student Vote 2025
With the federal election fast approaching, Mr. Macdonald’s Grade 6 class has been diving into civic education through a powerful partnership with Student Vote Canada. They provide an experiential learning program designed to foster informed, engaged, and responsible citizenship in young people.
In preparation for the upcoming federal election, students have been researching major political parties and creating informational posters to introduce each one, highlighting key campaign promises and how they could impact young Canadians. With confidence and clarity, they’ve been visiting other classrooms to share their learning and help fellow students understand who could become the next Prime Minister of Canada, depending on the outcome.
On Monday, students in Grades 3–6 will have the chance to participate in a school-wide mock election, casting their votes at a polling station set up right inside Cambrian Heights School.
Opportunities like this help students develop critical thinking skills, engage in respectful dialogue, and see themselves as active participants in democracy – even before they’re old enough to vote. We’re so proud of their leadership and the thoughtful conversations they’re sparking across our school!
Have a wonderful weekend!
