School Update:

Living History: Grade 5 Explores the Lives of the Famous Five!

As part of their study of Canadian history, Grade 5 students in Ms. Bower’s class explored the lives and contributions of the Famous Five – trailblazing women who played a pivotal role in advancing women's rights in Canada. Each student selected one of these influential figures to research in depth.

Following their research, students composed a series of five diary entries written from the perspective of their chosen historical figure. These entries reflected both the individual’s contributions to Canadian society and aspects of her personal life.

To showcase their learning, students published their work using Book Creator. They typed their diary entries, created original illustrations, and recorded voice narrations, combining creativity with historical understanding in a multimedia presentation.

New Library Printer Empowers Student Authors
As a way to celebrate and share the incredible digital writing being produced by our students – ranging from poems and personal narratives to predictions, summaries, and story connections – we’ve introduced a new student printer located in the library.

Students can now send their print jobs directly to the library printer and access them using their library card or student ID and password. This new addition is already proving to be a hit! The published work on our Publishers’ Showcase bulletin board is growing quickly, and students are taking pride in seeing their writing displayed and shared with others.

Missing Something? We Might Have It!
With the warmer weather, we’ve noticed a growing collection of jackets, hoodies, sweaters, and winter gear in our lost and found. To support families in claiming missing items, we’ll be regularly sending out photos of lost and found items through School Messenger.

If you recognize something that belongs to your child, please contact the school—we’re happy to set it aside or return it directly to your child. Labeling clothing and personal items makes a big difference and helps us return them quickly!

Helping Students Feel Confident Riding the Bus

We’re excited to share that the My 1st Ride school bus orientation program is now available for students who are new to riding the bus! This free program is a great way to help first-time riders—whether they’re starting kindergarten, have special transportation needs, or are older students using school transportation for the first time—get comfortable with the bus experience.

Each session includes a short presentation, a ride on a school bus, and a certificate of completion for every new rider. Sessions run every half hour from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, and spots must be booked in advance on a first-come, first-served basis.

To learn more and register, please visit our School Website.

 Have a fantastic long weekend!
