School Update:
Kindergarten & Grade 1 Sharing Assembly
It was wonderful to see so many families able to join us for our Kindergarten & Grade 1 Sharing Assembly – thank you for being there to support our students!
Our Grade 1 students proudly shared their learning about Canadian animals, explaining how to identify evidence of these animals in nature and how some adapt by hibernating during the winter months. A highlight was hearing their journal entries written from the perspective of the animals they researched. Such thoughtful and creative work! They also treated us to two songs, including a fun and energetic Math place value song all about counting by 10s.
Our Kindergarten students were equally impressive, performing a Polar Bear poem complete with actions that brought their learning to life from their recent unit. They also had the whole audience smiling with their performance of the classic Going on a Bear Hunt.
These sharing assemblies are such an important part of our school community. They give students an authentic opportunity to showcase their learning, build confidence, and take pride in their work, while also giving families a chance to connect with and celebrate what’s happening in our classrooms. Thank you again for being part of it – we love learning alongside you!
A First Look at Colonel Irvine: Grade 6 Band Concert Visit
Our Grade 6 students had the opportunity to walk over to Colonel Irvine School this week to enjoy a band concert hosted by their students. Colonel Irvine is our Grade 7–9 feeder school, and with students currently beginning to think about their transition next year, this was a great chance to experience part of school life there.
The performance was fantastic, and our students were able to see firsthand the skill, commitment, and energy that goes into a band program. Opportunities like this help make the transition to junior high feel more familiar and give students a better sense of the many ways they can get involved in their new school community.
Going Above and Beyond: A Special Thank You to Mr. Dang
A special shoutout to one of our Grade 5 teachers, Mr. Dang, who volunteered his time last Sunday to take his class to a Calgary Flames game…an experience students won’t soon forget!
This opportunity came through their participation in the CGY Champs classroom program, where students engaged in learning around health and wellness, including social-emotional learning, nutrition, and goal setting. Throughout the year, they worked hard, stayed committed, and earned points by completing activities alongside lessons supported by athlete mentors from Calgary’s professional sports teams. As a class, they set a goal and saved their points toward a shared reward, and their efforts paid off in a big way.
At the game, students not only enjoyed the excitement of live hockey, but also had the chance to meet Harvey the Hound and even received a shoutout on the jumbotron. A sincere thank you as well to the parents who accompanied their children and supported the experience.
I’m incredibly grateful for the many ways my staff go above and beyond for students. Giving up personal time to create meaningful, memorable experiences like this speaks volumes about the care, commitment, and heart they bring to our school community.
Thank You to Our Student Teachers
This week, we said farewell to our student teachers from both Mount Royal University and the University of Calgary. In total, we were fortunate to host ten student teachers, and we can’t thank them enough for the dedication, energy, and care they brought to our classrooms throughout their practicums.
Mentoring future teachers is an important part of the work we do as a school community. It’s an opportunity to support the growth of the profession while also benefiting from the fresh perspectives, new ideas, and enthusiasm that student teachers bring into our classrooms. Their contributions have had a meaningful impact on both our students and staff.
We are grateful for all they have given during their time with us, and we look forward to the possibility of welcoming them back in the future as certified teachers. Wishing each of them all the best as they continue on their journey in education!
Fun Lunch Success – Thank You, School Council!
Students enjoyed a delicious Fun Lunch this week with food from Quesada! These days are always a highlight, and we are so grateful to our School Council for the time and effort they put into organizing these experiences for our students.
As a parent myself, I also know how much it’s appreciated to get a day off from making lunches – it’s a small thing that goes a long way in busy weeks!
Thank you again to our School Council and to all the families who support these initiatives. These moments help build a strong sense of community and bring a little extra joy to our school days.
Have a fantastic weekend!
