School Update:

An Inspiring Visit from Sir John Franklin School’s Arts Program

Sir John Franklin School Schol visited us on Thursday to share an engaging presentation highlighting their vibrant performing arts program. Our students had the opportunity to experience a live band performance, where talented student musicians played several pieces while also introducing the instruments featured in their program, including flutes, clarinets, saxophones, and percussion. Student artwork was also on display, adding another layer to the creative experience.

In addition to the band, we were treated to an energetic performance from their dance team, followed by a special preview from the cast of their recent musical theatre production, Newsies, who performed three impressive numbers.

Experiences like this provide our students with a meaningful glimpse into the opportunities that await them in junior high, while also highlighting the power of the performing arts to build confidence, foster creativity, and bring people together.

Upcoming Immunization Follow-Up at Cambrian Heights

This week, our Grade 6 classes proudly hosted a meaningful and engaging Culture Day celebration. Our student teachers welcomed Dr. Joshua Hill, a Métis educator from Mount Royal University, who opened the event with a thoughtful land acknowledgement. He also guided students in learning and pronouncing Indigenous words, deepening their understanding of the land, language, and the importance of honouring Indigenous perspectives.

Students then worked in groups of four to deliver engaging presentations, sharing aspects of their cultures, traditions, and heritages. As groups presented, classmates rotated between tables asking questions, exploring artifacts, and learning from one another in an interactive and respectful environment. The classroom was filled with curiosity, meaningful conversations, and a genuine appreciation for one another’s background.

A special thank you to our Grade 6 student teachers, Ms. Chap and Ms. Salem, for their thoughtful planning and organization in creating this meaningful learning experience for students. We are incredibly proud of our students for the confidence, collaboration, and enthusiasm they demonstrated in celebrating both their own cultures and those of others.

Upcoming Immunization Follow-Up at Cambrian Heights

Just a reminder that Alberta Health Services will be at Cambrian Heights School on the morning of Tuesday, April 14 to provide immunization follow-up appointments. This clinic is for students who were absent during the previous immunization date in December, or for those who require additional doses to complete their immunization series.

A team of four immunizing nurses will be on site to support students. An AHS volunteer, identifiable by a red vest, will also be present to help escort students back to class following their immunization.

All families of students scheduled to receive immunizations have already been contacted. If you believe your child should be included or if you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school or Alberta Health Services.

Have a great long weekend!
