 School Update:

National Indigenous Peoples Day Celebration at Cambrian Heights School

On Friday, June 21st Cambrian Heights School celebrated National Indigenous Peoples Day.  Our school came together to reflect on and celebrate the unique heritage, traditions, and knowledge of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples. We began the day with a school-wide read-aloud of the book I Feel Like a Fox by award-winning Indigenous author Danielle Daniel. This book introduced us to the Anishinaabe tradition of animal totems, helping students identify positive character traits through familiar animal guides.

Students then participated in various outdoor Indigenous games, gathered in sharing circles, and engaged in a variety of classroom activities.  These included the creation of artwork inspired by Indigenous artists Norval Morrisseau and Richard Van Camp. Other activities included Métis language lessons, wellness experiences, and Indigenous math games. It was a day filled with meaningful learning and appreciation for Indigenous cultures.

Also, in recognition of National Indigenous Peoples Day, and in alignment with the CBE Education Plan, Cambrian Heights School acknowledges and supports the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s (TRC) Calls to Action.  In doing so, we have renewed our commitment to action for the 2024-2025 school year.  Please follow the link below to see the specific actions we have committed to at Cambrian Heights School.

School Safety Patrol Gold Standard Certificate of Excellence Award

This week, we celebrated our dedicated School Safety Patrol team with a special pizza lunch to recognize their commitment to ensuring safe crossings at the busy intersection in front of our school. Certificates were awarded to our patrollers for their hard work and dedication. We are incredibly grateful for their efforts in keeping our students safe every day.

A big thank you to the Cambrian Heights Parents Association for generously donating drinks and snacks for the event. Special congratulations to Daylin C. who was named Patroller of the Year for their outstanding service!

We are also proud to announce that our school was awarded the Gold Safety Standard of Excellence Certificate. This special certificate recognizes our outstanding achievement in meeting the safety standards of the AMA School Safety Patrol Program. You can see it proudly displayed in the glass cabinet outside the office.

And finally, a special thank you to our teacher sponsors Mr. Sadowsky, Mr. Dang, and Ms. Thistle for their leadership and commitment in organizing, training, and the daily supervision of the Cambrian Heights School AMA Safety Patrol.
